Long Term Planning
As required by my district and campus, I am strictly following their pre-made Scope and Sequence determining the standards per unit and the order of content. This resource adjusts yearly based upon teacher feedback. Curriculum
Specialists determine logical learning order of skills and genres. The district then provides teachers access to the scope and sequence to create unit plans and weekly lesson plans. There are four cycles with twelve units total.

I specifically utilize the Scope and Sequence in order to ensure all standards are covered with the appropriate academic language aligned to assessment.
HISD Scope and Sequence

One feature of the scope and sequence I find particularly meaningful is the essential question per cycle. This guides all of the learning for that grouping of units and allows me to monitor student understanding

Our district wide Pacing Calendar determines the allotment of time to our cycles and units. This breaks down the time spent on particular genres and all important assessment dates. Additionally, this calendar serves as a guide as to provide reteaches and extended focus on areas of skill deficit.
In my practice, I find this calendar to be one of my most referenced items. I frequently refer to the time frame of units when developing on-going projects and review.

In addition to in class instructional planning, out of the classroom annual planning occurs for our field trips. I am in charge of planning with my grade level team multiple enrichment opportunities for students beyond our time in the classroom. The two of focus this current school year are an overnight stay at The Children's Museum for 4th grade girls and the entire grade wide Live Theater Show upcoming in May.

Implementation of learning in the form of a field trip requires that I coordinate with our site locations, fund-raise, develop a logistics plan including bus rentals and food accommodations, and receive administrative approval.

In conjunction with field trips, competitions have become an area I branched into to that requires long term learning. Specifically I help students prepare for a district wide reading competition called Name That Book. Students will be given a list of quotes from a text and must use technology- IPads- to submit their answers. For weekly practices, I pull quotes from the list of competition specified texts to quiz students. The competition is in the Spring and requires a great deal of preparation to be competitive.
