Meet the

Educator

I teach for change in my community - Houston.

Being a native Houstonian, I had the unique honor of being placed in my home city while serving in Teach for America. This is my sixth year in the classroom. Over the years, I have taught third and fourth grade English Language Arts. Currently, I am serving as the campus Instructional Excellence Coach and Interventionist.

Two days before I stepped into the classroom, our city was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Our campus was filled with four feet of water. We taught from displacement locations for six months. Our new room had no technology, so it was back to basics with classic chalk and chalkboards. From this experience, I learned adaptability is key. This mindset proved to be invaluable in the spring of 2020 when learning became virtual due to a world wide pandemic.

In order to provide my students an excellent and equitable education, I pursued a Master of Science in Education at Johns Hopkins University to hone my craft and graduated Class of 2020. I love that education is the field that teaches everyone involved, from the student to the teacher- everyone is leaving changed.
